The turmoil within PlayStation continues, and this time, the outlook doesnt seem promising, as one of their flagship acquisitions, Bungie, had to implement staff layoffs. Reports this morning unveiled a wave of layoffs at the Destiny company, but the bad news doesnt end there, as two of its major projects have reportedly suffered significant delays.
Bungie not only reports layoffs but also delays in Destiny 2 and Marathon
Following the public disclosure of layoffs at Bungie, through journalist Jason Schreier of Bloomberg, additional information has emerged, indicating that two of the video games in development at the company are facing imminent delays. According to reliable sources, Bungie has informed its employees that the next expansion for Destiny 2, The Final Shape, will be delayed until June 2024. Likewise, it has been reported that Marathon is facing the same fate, with a tentative release window in 2025.

Destiny 2: The Final Shape serves as the conclusion to the Light and Dark saga and is expected to be the franchises defining moment. There has been high anticipation surrounding this expansion, as it is hoped that Bungie will finally address the concerns fans have voiced about recent releases. Unfortunately, with the delay likely imminent, it seems we wont experience this DLC until the summer of the next year.
On the other hand, Marathon marks the return of the legendary franchise that Bungie worked on in its early days. However, unlike the previous entries with a sci-fi storyline and theme, the company has opted for a multiplayer extraction-style proposition, possibly driven by PlayStations need to find a significant source of income in the realm of games as a service, especially now that Call of Duty belongs to Microsoft.
