Initially, Warner Bros. and DC Comics started DC FanDome in 2020 as a new way to share news from games, movies and comics, held exclusively online, this was a response to the COVID-19 pandemic limiting in-person events. Sadly the online event will not take place this year but not everything is bad news!

Even though many expected that in 2022 we would see its third edition, Warner Bros. Discovery made the hard decision to cancel DC FanDome 2022; however, the comic company has been present at several in-person events such as San Diego Comic-Con and will soon be at New York Comic Con. Thus, with the return of these types of events, they see no point in doing DC FanDome.

The company released a statement initially reported by Popverse, where they confirmed the cancellation of the event, at least for this year.

In their own words:

“With the return of in person events, Warner Bros. Discovery is excited to be able to engage with our fans live at numerous comic-cons around the world and will not be scheduling DC FanDome for 2022.”

They are going thru a lot

While the company assured us that the decision to forego DC FanDome this year is unrelated to any budgetary concern and fans should not be scared at all, let’s not forget that another reason to consider is the insane number of changes at Warner Bros. Discovery recently. So far, DC’s parent company laid off 14 percent of the staff of HBO Max and its set to merge the HBO Max and Discovery+ stream services next summer 2023.

With that in mind, it's pretty likely that there wasn't the time needed to organize the event or that simply an online event wasn't a priority anymore. The good news is that DC as a brand is a priority for this company, so the news and new content will keep arriving smoothly.

What did you think? It's a good decision to get rid of online events like DC FanDome? Share your thoughts in the comments.
