Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Hideo Kojima’s latest title, is trending due to its recent nominations for GOTY and other awards at The Game Awards 2025. It seems like the perfect opportunity for more people to experience the acclaimed game, but for now, it is only available on PlayStation 5. Apparently, this will change soon, as the sequel may be heading to another platform.

The first entry in the franchise is multiplatform thanks to its staggered release. It first launched on Sony’s consoles and on PC, and later received a confirmed Xbox port. A recent hint suggests that Death Stranding 2 will follow the same trajectory—and the announcement of a port for another platform may be just around the corner.

Death Stranding 2 is coming to another platform and will no longer be a PS5 exclusive

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach surpassed its predecessor in every area. It’s no surprise that it’s one of the standout games of the year, as Kojima Productions once again excelled both technically and narratively. The sequel was praised by critics and fans of the Japanese studio, which is actively working on expanding the franchise beyond video games.

Hideo Kojima also wants more people to enjoy the sequel to his franchise. For that reason, it seems only a matter of time before Death Stranding 2 loses its PlayStation 5 exclusivity. The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) rated the game for a new platform, suggesting that the port announcement is imminent.

According to the listing, it’s only a matter of time before Death Stranding 2 launches on PC. The original game also arrived on PC less than a year after its console debut. That release was handled by 505 Games, but everything indicates that Sony Interactive Entertainment will manage distribution of the sequel on Steam and the Epic Games Store.

At the time of writing, Kojima Productions has not confirmed the PC launch of Death Stranding 2. However, an ESRB rating is rarely incorrect, and the official announcement usually occurs shortly after the classification is revealed. Many speculate that the PC port could be announced during The Game Awards 2025 ceremony.

If confirmed, the PC version is expected to include unique features and new content, which may or may not come to the PlayStation 5 edition. For now, we’ll have to wait for more information.

The franchise expands beyond video games

For years, Death Stranding has been more than just a video game series. Hideo Kojima released a novel series to explore the saga’s story from a different angle. Currently, several new projects are underway that will expand the franchise’s universe with a series and an animated film.

Death Stranding Isolations is an anime for Disney+. Kojima serves as executive producer, while Takayuki Sano is the director. The production will follow the life of a warrior who “tries to drive a world of constant conflict,” a boy who “harbors resentment toward Bridges,” a girl who “embraces solitude,” and an old man who “seeks salvation through paths disconnected from connection.”

The Japanese creator is also working on Death Stranding Mosquito, an animated film being developed by ABC ANIMATION STUDIO. It will be directed by Hiroshi Miyamoto with a script by Aaron Guzikowski. Like the anime, it will not be a direct adaptation of the games but will explore new stories within the same universe.

For now, none of these productions have a release date. Meanwhile, Hideo Kojima continues working on OD and Physint, his upcoming games that will explore genres such as horror and stealth, respectively.
