Dragon’s Dogma is a relatively small franchise, but over the years, it has built a very passionate community. Therefore, its sequel was one of the most anticipated projects of 2024. After a long wait, Dragon’s Dogma 2 arrived in stores with great success.
The RPG by Capcom debuted on March 21, 2024. Although it received very good ratings from specialized press thanks to its robust pawn system and its quirky combat, controversy reared its head from the very beginning.
The role-playing title debuted with some performance issues, especially on PC; players reported frame drops, texture errors, and other flaws. Additionally, the community lashed out against microtransactions, as currently, up to 21 items are sold in the store. Even modders got to work to provide free alternatives.
Although Dragon’s Dogma 2 has mixed reviews on Steam and a player score of 6.2 on Metacritic, it was a success and far surpassed the commercial performance of the previous installment.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 has already sold 2.5 million copies
Through a press release, Capcom announced that the fantasy RPG shipped 2.5 million units in its first 11 days on the market. This figure includes copies sold since the launch on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Steam.
To put the success of the new installment of the role-playing saga into perspective, lets remember that the original title from 2012 shipped 1.05 million copies in its first month, a figure that the Japanese company considered a success. In 2015, 2 years after its release, it reached 2.3 million units sold.
Thanks to the strong initial performance of Dragon’s Dogma 2, the franchise has now surpassed 10 million copies sold.
In the statement, Capcom emphasizes that it carried out promotional activities worldwide to attract both fans of the saga and new players. One of these initiatives was releasing the character editor before the launch, allowing fans to customize their avatars in advance.
