Xbox Game Pass continues to be one of the most compelling subscription services in gaming, especially for players looking to experience new releases without breaking the bank. And May 2025 just got even more exciting with the arrival of a high-profile, critically acclaimed AAA title.
After a strong start to the year with hits like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Xbox Game Pass is keeping the momentum going by adding one of the most anticipated games of 2025 to its growing library.
DOOM: The Dark Ages Launches Day One on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass
The latest addition to the service is DOOM: The Dark Ages, a major new entry in the legendary action franchise from id Software. This time around, players are thrown into a dark medieval setting that explores the origins of the DOOM Slayer, serving as a prequel to the 2016 and 2020 titles.
The game officially launched on May 14 in select regions and became fully available worldwide on May 15. As a day-one release, it’s now playable at no additional cost for all Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers.
In addition to console and PC support, DOOM: The Dark Ages is also available via Xbox Cloud Gaming, meaning Game Pass Ultimate members can slay demons on the go using mobile devices or supported platforms.

What Makes DOOM: The Dark Ages One of 2025’s Top Titles?
Despite some initial controversy over its more tactical combat style—introducing shield mechanics and parry-based gameplay—DOOM: The Dark Ages has won over critics and players alike with its polished gunplay and excellent level design.
It currently holds an average score of 85 on Metacritic and boasts Very Positive reviews on Steam, securing its place as one of the highest-rated games of the year. It’s the 15th best-reviewed release of 2025 so far, and easily a must-play for fans of fast-paced shooters.
The soundtrack might not live up to previous entries in the series, but the game’s thrilling combat, immersive environments, and story-driven campaign have kept players engaged and excited.

Available Now — But for How Long?
At this time, it’s unclear when DOOM: The Dark Ages will be added to the more affordable Xbox Game Pass Standard tier. Microsoft previously stated that dates for standard plan availability will be handled on a case-by-case basis, typically ranging from 6 to 12 months after release.
For now, the game is available exclusively to Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass members.
With this release, DOOM: The Dark Ages becomes the 53rd game to join Game Pass in 2025, and the 8th title added this May. The service isn’t slowing down, either—upcoming additions include Spray Paint Simulator and To A T.
