Its no secret that major gaming companies seek to optimize processes, diversify budgets, and provide a personalized experience for players. Recently, a patent from Electronic Arts revealed what could be the future of character voices.

The recent Hollywood strike exposed the risks of artificial intelligence tools for actors, writers, and artists. However, this may not be the end, at least not in video games, as a patent registered by EA in October 2020 and made public a few days ago (via VeryAliGaming) proposes that players record their voices for characters in the video game to reproduce in their dialogues.

According to the information, the patent titled "Generation of a players voice for a video game" aims to take customization to the next level. If there are games where the user creates, details, and brings their characters to life, why wouldnt the same apply to the voice?

How Does EAs Voice Patent for Characters Work?

This process involves a synthesizer module that captures the users voice or any other persons voice and transforms it into code adopted by the system. Then, a voice converter ensures that the acoustic recording recognizing the players real voice tone is transferred to the video game experience so that the characters have personalized dubbing to the users liking.

Likewise, EAs patent indicates that this system can recognize text, allowing players to make characters say what they want. It can also register differences in acoustics related to mood, intensity, and emotions.

This isnt the only EA patent revealed in recent years. Previously, the company filed a patent for generating personalized music based on what happens in the game and the users emotions. On the other hand, theres a patent that includes a users gaming experience recognition system, which would modify missions and objectives based on their gameplay patterns. For example, if they enjoy stealth, they will have more challenges of that type.
