Elon Musk is not only convinced that Grok, his artificial intelligence, will be able to create incredible games by 2026. He also believes his AI can defeat top players and elite esports teams. To prove it, he issued a challenge to T1, the renowned competitive squad and home of Faker, one of the greatest League of Legends players in history.

The owner of Tesla, xAI, and X thinks Grok won’t have trouble beating T1’s best players in a League of Legends match. Through social media, Elon Musk presented the challenge to the team and set a few restrictions to make sure his AI competes fairly against humans.

The announcement caused a stir in the esports community. Many players believe that artificial intelligence is a formidable challenge and that this is an opportunity to test their skills. In response, T1 answered Musk’s call and expressed interest in the matchup.

Elon Musk Wants to Defeat the Best League of Legends Team With Artificial Intelligence

Elon Musk has shown interest in video games in several ways, but he has always wanted to shine as a competitive player. With that in mind, the billionaire wants to defeat the best League of Legends team using artificial intelligence. He considers the challenge to T1 a kind of ultimate test to demonstrate what his technology is capable of.

Musk proposed that Grok, his artificial intelligence, compete against the best human team in League of Legends. Faker and his teammates have proven time and time again that they sit at the top of the MOBA scene, far above other squads. For that reason, Elon Musk’s challenge is directed at T1. The idea is for the team to play matches against Grok 5 sometime next year.

“Let’s see if Grok 5 can beat the best human team in 2026 with these important restrictions.”

So, what were Musk’s conditions? The entrepreneur explained that Grok 5 will be able to play any video game “simply by reading the instructions and experimenting.” However, it will have some limitations that affect its matches with T1. To begin with, the AI has a click rate and reaction latency that are not faster than human ones.

On top of that, the AI can only see the monitor through a camera, meaning it won’t see “more than a person with 20/20 vision would.” This means Grok will play under human-like, not superhuman, conditions.

The challenge caught the attention of various professional players, many of whom expressed interest in competing against AI in other games. T1 accepted the challenge with a confident response stating they are ready

The entrepreneur doesn’t want to fall behind in the AI race, which is why he is exploring its potential in all kinds of projects. Elon Musk believes Grok will be able to create movies, video games, and other multimedia products in just a couple of years. He is convinced that his AI will be capable of developing very appealing titles before the end of 2026.

His vision has been met with skepticism and rejection from prominent industry creatives. Glen Schofield —creator of Dead Space and director of The Callisto Protocol— supports technology, but believes Elon Musk is lying. He thinks 2026 is far too early for AI to create worthwhile games.

Industry veteran Michael “Cromwelp” Douse, Editorial Director at Larian Studios —creators of Baldur’s Gate 3— also criticized the billionaire. He believes AI is a valuable tool; however, he is convinced it is not capable of creating great games.

“What this industry really needs is not more gameplay loops mathematically generated or designed with psychological techniques, but more expressions of worlds that people can feel connected to or want to engage with. AI has its place as a tool, but we already have all the tools in the world, and none of them are compensating for the massive lack of coherent direction. AI is not going to solve the industry’s biggest problem, which is leadership and vision.”
