While the Fallout series on Prime Video became the talk of the town, fans of Fallout: New Vegas grew furious as certain details in the timeline, specifics, and events shown in the production seemed to suggest that Obsidians game was out of canon. The situation escalated to the point where the series creators had to address it.
Todd Howard Confirms that the Fallout Series is Canon and Fallout: New Vegas Is Too
During an interview with IGN, Todd Howard discussed the events of Fallout: New Vegas and whether Obsidians RPG truly fell out of the franchises canon. Regarding this, the Bethesda creative director assured that the series is 100% canon, so adjustments to the main storyline have to be considered to catch up, though there are no dramatic changes.
Regarding what happens in Fallout: New Vegas, the creative director mentioned that the game and its events have not been excluded, and when the series refers to Shady Sands being destroyed, it speaks of a social degradation process culminating in a nuclear bomb but after the events of Obsidians game, so that part of the story remains intact.
Before Todd Howards official response, fans of the title, considered the best in the franchise and ironically not made by Bethesda, thought their events had been changed abruptly with the mere mention that Shady Sands no longer existed and that the New California Republic (NCR) was settled in Los Angeles. However, now we know that it was all part of a process, and while everything was destroyed, it wasnt before Fallout: New Vegas, but after.
Thus, the controversy has ended, and fans of Fallout: New Vegas can rest assured that the game has not been erased from the main history of Bethesdas IP.
