Blumhouse has announced who will direct Five Nights at Freddy's, a film adaptation of the wildly popular horror video game of the same name According to a recent official release from the production company, production on the film is set to begin in early 2023. Chris Columbus will not be directing the movie, as was previously speculated.

Five Nights at Freddy's video game franchise includes eight main games; the most recent, Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach, was released in 2021.

The film will be directed by Emma Tammi and based on the work of video game franchise creator Scott Cawthon: "Stepping into the rich, terrifying world of Freddy’s alongside Scott Cawthon, Blumhouse and Jim Henson’s Creature Shop is beyond thrilling. I cannot wait for audiences to immerse themselves in the wild and wonderful playground we are creating," the director said.

The story follows the adventures of a night security guard who begins working at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. When the animatronics that entertain the children during the day become eerie presences when darkness falls on his first night on the job, he realizes something is wrong.

The movie has been postponed several times, and filming of Freddy's was scheduled to begin in 2021. Now the project seems to be back on track and appears to be very close to production.
