Grand Theft Auto VI is arguably the most anticipated release of 2025, if not the decade. Fans are eagerly watching for any news or events that could impact Rockstar Games schedule. Surprisingly, a non-gaming event has some fans concerned.
After a lengthy election process, Republican candidate Donald Trump won the U.S. presidency this week, making him the next President of the United States. Interestingly, some experts claimed Trump’s true opponent was "Xbox," referring to young voters who stayed home to play video games instead of voting.
Though this election outcome may seem unrelated to the gaming world, some fans have made a curious connection to GTA VI and its upcoming release in 2025.

Former Rockstar Games Chief Was Grateful GTA VI Didn’t Release During Trump’s Presidency
Following the victory of the 78-year-old politician, gamers recalled past statements by Dan Houser, co-founder and former head of Rockstar Games. In a 2018 interview with GQ magazine about Red Dead Redemption 2, Houser spoke on the challenges of creating social satire in Grand Theft Auto VI.
In the interview, Houser stated that he was grateful GTA VI wasn’t launching during Trump’s presidency, as he feared the public’s reaction to some of the game’s parodies. He noted that events in real life are often “beyond satire.”

"It’s not entirely clear what we’d do with it, nor how angry people would be with what we did. Both intense liberal progressivism and intense conservatism are extremely militant and angry. It’s scary, but also strange. Both sometimes veer toward the absurd. It’s hard to satirize for these reasons. Some things you see are directly beyond satire. They’d be outdated in two minutes; everything changes so fast."
With this in mind, many fans worry that Take-Two Interactive could decide to indefinitely delay the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI to avoid a release coinciding with Trump’s presidential term.

Could Trump’s Return to the White House Delay GTA VI?
While it’s interesting that the game featuring protagonists Jason and Lucia will launch during Trump’s era, is there really a reason to fear a delay? Not really.
It’s worth noting that Dan Houser left Rockstar Games in 2020, so he no longer has control over GTA VI’s release schedule. Additionally, Take-Two Interactive recently confirmed in their latest financial report that the open-world game is still on track to debut in Fall 2025.
While a delay could happen if unexpected issues arise during development, it seems unlikely that Take-Two, led by Strauss Zelnick, would push back the release due to a non-gaming event like Trump’s election.
