Mad Max is one of the most recognizable franchises in the entertainment industry, but interestingly, its journey through video games is not as extensive. Its most recent title was released almost 10 years ago, and there are no clues suggesting that a new installment is in development. Recently, filmmaker George Miller spoke about Avalanche Studios project, sparking controversy.
This week saw the debut of Furiosa, the latest film starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth. During the premiere, the media outlet GamingBible asked director George Miller if he would like to make a video game set in this apocalyptic universe.

George Miller wants Hideo Kojima to make a Mad Max game
Indeed, the prestigious filmmaker recalls that they made a title for the franchise in 2015 to coincide with the release of Mad Max: Fury Road. Unlike the film, the video game received mixed reviews and had a rather uneven commercial performance, although it gained cult status over the years.
George Miller states that the game developed by Avalanche Studios was not as good as he would have liked, and he expressed that he would love for Hideo Kojima, creator of Metal Gear Solid, to take charge of a hypothetical project of that nature.
"We had a game we made in the era of Fury Road. Weve been asked many times to make one. But it wasnt as good as I would want it to be… it wasnt in our hands. We gave the material to a company to do it. But, you know, Im one of those people who prefers not to do something if it cant be done at the highest level, or at least try," commented the director.

"Its complete nonsense," Avalanche Studios founder responds to George Miller
For many, the 2015 video game is a misunderstood gem, so George Millers recent statements sparked controversy. One of the individuals who expressed discontent was Christofer Sundberg, founder of Avalanche Studios. In a series of social media posts, he criticized the filmmakers words and stated that the team did their best to make a quality game.
"This is complete nonsense and simply shows arrogance. They made every effort to make this a completely linear game after hiring a developer specialized in open-world games. Im sure Hideo Kojima would make an incredible Mad Max title, but it would be a completely different experience," the creative asserted.

Subsequently, Christofer Sundberg claimed that the team lost a year of work because initially they were forced to create a linear experience instead of an open-world adventure. In another post, he asserted that the publisher, Warner Bros. Games, was to blame for the poor commercial performance of the Mad Max game. Recall that the title debuted on the same day as Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
"We were also forced to release Mad Max on the same day as MGS, we were blamed for poor sales and canceled a bunch of incredible DLC that was waiting to be released," concluded the developer, who left Avalanche Studios in 2019.

But tell us, are you a fan of the 2015 game? Do you agree with George Millers statements? Let us know in the comments.
