An important detail is that Hokkaido was known as Ezo during the time in which Ghost of Yōtei takes place.
One key point about this location is that, in the period when Ghost of Yōtei is set, it was a place far removed from Japanese society at the time. This also means that you can expect to explore vast natural spaces like grasslands and tundras.
In what year does the story of Ghost of Yōtei take place?
According to an official announcement on the PlayStation Blog, the story of Ghost of Yōtei takes place in 1603. This means that it is set right at the beginning of the Edo Period and the start of the rule of the first Tokugawa shogun, Tokugawa Ieyasu.
This also means that Ghost of Yōtei is set 300 years after the story of Ghost of Tsushima.
