Grand Theft Auto VI could be delayed until 2026? Report worries fans

Its no secret that Grand Theft Auto VI is the most anticipated video game in many years, arguably in the entire history of gaming. The anticipation is such that its expected to boost the industry when it debuts in 2025 and puts an end to the uncertainty in the sector. However, Rockstar Games might have an unpleasant surprise in store.

GTA VI Could Be Delayed Until 2026

According to a report from Kotaku, internal sources at Rockstar Games have indicated that the production and development process of GTA VI are not meeting their schedule goals, and the possibility of its release being pushed to 2026 is real. The sources, who chose to remain anonymous, mentioned that Rockstar is concerned about two important details: the quality of the game and security to prevent a repeat of an incident like the infamous leak perpetrated by an underage hacker, as well as the scandal when the games first official trailer was leaked.

In this regard, the report indicates that despite efforts in the development process, production is falling behind its own internal timelines.

GTA VI debuting by 2026 is a possibility for Rockstar Games

Whats Happening at Rockstar and with the Development Process of GTA VI?

So far, and as reported, Rockstar maintains its official and private release goal for GTA VI in early 2025, probably in the first quarter of that year. However, the reality check provided by the ambitious title has opened up the possibility that the company may opt for a debut until 2026.

On the other hand, it is noted that the work situation at Rockstar Games is not the best as workers are still upset following the sudden announcement of the end of hybrid work and the need to return to offices to comply with the development of GTA VI, so the project, while not at risk, would be going through a turbulent period that would cast doubt on its release in 2025.

Likewise, its worth considering that GTA VI would debut on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, not on PC, so the top priority is for the game to work perfectly on all 3 consoles, but its known that this is not an easy task as this generation has fallen short, and major studios with AAA projects have faced difficulties in their development and optimization processes.
