Almost overnight, Helldivers 2 became one of Sony’s biggest hits. Arrowhead Game Studios’ sequel pulled in a huge community on the PlayStation 5 and PC, earning a spot as one of 2024’s standout releases. But Xbox Series X|S players were left out of the party — until now.
Many Xbox gamers had been begging for Helldivers 2 to come to their consoles for months. Fans even launched an online petition that gathered over 130,000 signatures to catch the developer’s attention and show just how much demand there was.
The effort has apparently paid off, since the co-op game is officially heading to Xbox, dropping its PlayStation-exclusive status.
After months of silence, Arrowhead surprised players with confirmation that the title is indeed coming to Microsoft’s hardware. And the best part is that Xbox players won’t have to wait long to suit up, as the release is just around the corner.
When Does Helldivers 2 Release on Xbox?
Arrowhead Game Studios announced that Helldivers 2 will arrive on Xbox Series X|S on August 26 — the same day Gears of War: Reloaded launches.
In a post on Xbox Wire, Game Director Mikael Eriksson thanked fans for their patience and talked about what this launch means for the team:
“We know gamers have been asking for this for some time and we are so excited to bring more Helldivers into our game. We have so much more in store for the coming months and years — and the more players we have, the more stories we can tell!”
Players will be able to grab the Standard Edition for $39.99. There’s also the Super Citizen Edition for $59.99, which comes with the DP-53 Savage Liberty armor set, the Will of the People cape, the MP-98 Knight weapon, Super Citizen status, a special ship set, and a premium Warbond voucher.
Anyone who pre-orders the game will get extra gear as a bonus: the TR-7 Brand Ambassador, TR-62 Knight, and TR-9 Democracy Rider armor sets. Pre-orders for both editions are already live in the Xbox Store, so players can lock in their copies ahead of launch day.
Will Helldivers 2 Be on Xbox Game Pass?
Unfortunately for Game Pass subscribers, Helldivers 2 won’t be part of the service at launch — so anyone who wants to join the fight will need to buy the game directly. There’s no word yet on whether that might change down the line.
