t was only earlier this year that Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions confirmed at CES 2025 that Helldivers would receive a full movie adaptation.
At the time, no additional details about the production were revealed. However, through the film-industry outlet The Hollywood Reporter, new information has emerged confirming that the project already has a director and a screenwriter.
Taiwanese filmmaker Justin Lin will take the director’s chair. He is best known for his work on the Fast & Furious franchise, though he also directed Star Trek Beyond, and his most recent project was Last Days.

According to sources cited by The Hollywood Reporter, Lin joined the project making it clear that he is not a gamer — something he considers an advantage when pitching his vision to Sony.
The director is reportedly interested in exploring the humanity of the characters while building the movie’s universe, weaving elements inspired by current global issues into the story.
Through his company Perfect Storm Entertainment, Lin will also help produce the film in collaboration with PlayStation Productions.
Meanwhile, the script was written by Gary Dauberman, an American screenwriter known for his work on horror sagas like Annabelle, It, and other genre films.
He’s no stranger to PlayStation Productions, as he previously served as writer and producer for Until Dawn. It’s certainly interesting that a horror specialist is handling the script for Helldivers, which leaves open the possibility that the adaptation may lean into the genre.
