It is evident that Concord, the latest PlayStation exclusive, did not meet players expectations. Unfortunately, it seems that the project by Firewalk Studios will also fall short of what Sony expected commercially.
Analysts are very pessimistic about the sales of the hero shooter for PlayStation 5 and PC. Although there are no official figures yet, they estimate that the games sales have been very poor, representing a dire situation for its developers and PlayStation.
Concord is a sales failure, analysts say
To put the situation of Concord into perspective, it’s important to remember that it debuted on Steam with a peak of 697 concurrent players, a number that has not improved since then. Clearly, this is terrible news for a live-service game.
Liam Deane, an Omdia analyst, emphasized that Steams figures are very bad, and he doesn’t think the outlook is much better on PlayStation 5. For this reason, he believes the game is experiencing a very poor commercial performance. "The Steam numbers are so bad that even without the exact data on the PS5 side we can be pretty certain that the game is doing very badly," Deane stated.
Regarding the number of copies sold, Simon Carless, from GameDiscover, estimates that Concord has sold approximately 25,000 units on both systems, a low figure for a PlayStation and Sony game.
Meanwhile, Mat Piscatella, an analyst at Circana, revealed that Concord ranked 147th in terms of daily active players on PlayStation 5 in the United States. This represents 0.2% of active players as of Monday, August 26.
Analysts agree that the games failure is due to its poor marketing campaign, the fact that it is a paid game, and that it entered an industry saturated with similar proposals, most of which are free-to-play. With that said, the outlook for Concord is bleak, and it seems to be yet another stumble by PlayStation and Sony in their new strategy focused on live-service games.
