The video game industry is complex, and the failure of a project can result in the layoffs of dozens of people. A recent example of this can be seen in Ascendant Studios, a studio that recently laid off nearly half of its staff after their recent project sold very poorly.

If the name Ascendant Studios sounds familiar, its because they are responsible for ]Immortals of Aveum, the latest release under the EA Originals label. This project aimed to capture the audience by combining first-person shooters with magical elements but failed in its mission.

According to sources from Polygon, Bret Robbins, CEO of Ascendant Studios, announced this morning that the studio would be laying off some of its staff. It is estimated that about 40 people lost their jobs. Considering that the studio employed between 80 and 100 people, this means that nearly half of the studios employees are now without jobs.

As mentioned earlier, employees cite the low sales of Immortals of Aveum as the reason for this round of layoffs, which the studio hopes will help keep it afloat.

How many copies did Immortals of Aveum sell?

So far, Electronic Arts has not revealed how many copies of Immortals of Aveum have been sold. Therefore, our only indicator of its commercial performance is on Steam, where it reached a peak of 751 users. While this is an incomplete view of the landscape, it gives us an idea.
