In which game from the series will the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie be based on?

Five Nights at Freddys aims to continue the successful trend of video game adaptations to the big screen following the success of Super Mario Bros. The Movie, Sonic: The Movie, and Gran Turismo. Undoubtedly, one of the secrets to its success will be how faithful it is to the source material. Fortunately, it has already been confirmed that it will be based on a specific installment, but which one?

When adapting a video game for the silver screen, there are many possibilities. You can create a new story based on its world, draw from the overall franchise, or try to adapt a specific installment. In the case of Five Nights at Freddys, its the latter, and it will adapt the first title in the franchise: Five Nights at Freddys (2014).

However, its most likely that certain story elements will be saved for potential sequels.
