“It’s a AAAA game,” Ubisoft defends the $70 USD price point for Skull and Bones

The development of Skull and Bones has not been without challenges, and after so much time since its announcement and the development issues surrounding it, fans have doubts about whether it will meet expectations. Nonetheless, Ubisoft will sell it at the full price of a current-generation game and has just defended the $70 USD price tag.

Ubisofts CEO, Yves Guillemot, participated in a question-and-answer session as part of the financial report for the third quarter of fiscal year 2024, where he was questioned about the delayed pirate project.

One of the questions pointed out the more game-as-a-service approach that the title is taking, as well as the $70 USD price, suggesting that a game of this service-oriented style might be better suited for a free-to-play model to build a broader community.

Ubisoft claims Skull and Bones is a AAAA game

Guillemots response was very interesting as he defended the full price of the title, stating that it is a "quadruple A" or AAAA game, meaning that it is so vast and complex, and its production values were similar to other projects with this price, like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Dragons Dogma 2, or Persona 3 Reload, confident that it will yield results in the long run for the company.

"You will see that Skull and Bones is a full-fledged game," said the executive (via Video Games Chronicle). "Its a very big game, and we believe people will really see how vast and complete that game is. Its a truly complete, triple… quadruple A game that will yield results in the long run."

Fortunately, the wait to see the final result will not be long, as Skull and Bones will finally debut next week.
