Having a great video game is no guarantee in an increasingly competitive industry where the environment affects outcomes in various ways. Unfortunately, this seems to be the case for one of the best games of the year, whose low sales may have sealed the fate of its studio.

Team behind Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown reportedly disbanded

According to information from YouTuber "Gautoz" (via Wccftech), Ubisoft Montpellier, the team responsible for developing Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, one of the best games of the year, has been disbanded as part of a reorganization strategy by the French company. Reportedly, low sales led to this decision, despite the games exemplary organization, planning, and development.

Sources indicate that the Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown team aimed to surprise Ubisoft with alternative organization and development processes. However, while the game received high praise from critics, its market performance fell short of expectations.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is a great game, but sales did not favor it

Reports months after release indicated that Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown sold only 300,000 copies, a worrying figure that was far from justifying future projects.

Considering this, the report mentions that the team proposed a second installment of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, as the only approved content they had at the time was the original game and a DLC. However, despite the games critical reception, the possibility of a sequel seems to have been ruled out.

Lastly, it’s reported that Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown sales were below Ubisofts standards, which ultimately worked against the Montpellier teams expectations. While no layoffs have been reported, the team has been disbanded, suggesting they may have been reassigned to other projects.
