Nobuo Uematsu has no plans to retire from composing video game music
Fans quickly flooded social media with messages of reverence for Uematsu, and the composer soon took to his Twitter (X) account to reassure his followers that this was all a "misunderstanding." Despite his statement in the promotional video for Fantasian that its soundtrack would be his "final project as a video game composer," the situation is more nuanced.
The artist clarified that he intends to scale back his involvement in video game projects because he wants more time to create the music he truly enjoys.
"It would be very difficult for me to fully dedicate myself to a video game soundtrack due to the prolonged time commitment required for composing," the composer explained.
However, this does not mean that Uematsu wants to cut ties with the video game industry. On the contrary, he mentioned that he would love to continue creating music for video games, though focusing on select themes rather than full soundtracks, similar to his work on the remake of Final Fantasy VII.
Its worth noting that this is not the first time Uematsu has hinted at distancing himself from the video game industry. A few months ago, the artist mentioned that he no longer had the stamina to compose full video game scores as he once did.
Uematsu wanted his last complete video game soundtrack to be exceptional, so he poured all his "body and spirit" into composing the music for Fantasian, marking his final full project as the main composer.
