With video game adaptations to the film or TV world, its ideal for fans that actors are familiar with the original work to capture the essence of their characters and the franchise overall. Its not a requirement, however, for actors to play the titles, but some do to better portray their characters, and Jack Black is doing just that for his upcoming movie.
The actor, also a singer, YouTuber, and celebrity, has recently been involved in several video game movies, namely Super Mario Bros. The Movie and Borderlands, and will soon be filming the third: Minecraft, where he will play the protagonist, Steve.
When it was confirmed that Jack Black would portray Steve in the Minecraft movie the actor appeared with a book that suggested he was unfamiliar with the world of this series, but the truth was very different, as the actor is taking his role very seriously to the extent of playing and studying Mojangs work, owned by Microsoft.
Has Jack Black played Minecraft?
"I have literally been exclusive Minecraft for the last month and a half. Pure Minecraft all the time. Im in a little movie called Minecraft. Not to brag, but its the big thing," said Black.
Its not the first time Black has played this title; he played it years ago thanks to his children, who were big fans of the game, and he wanted to be on the same page and make the game a topic of conversation.
"So, I studied a lot and learned and got really into building houses and tunneling. Now Im getting back into it, its very cool," the actor told IGN.
According to Black, the most important thing he needs to learn is to build a house as quickly as possible, "because you dont want to wait for nightfall without having shelter."
Unfortunately, Minecraft fans will have to be patient, as it wont be available in theaters until 2024, but the good news is that it already has a release date: April 4th next year.
