The State of Play left Marvel fans excited with the reveal of a brand-new fighting game.
To close the event in style, Marvel Games announced MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, a 4v4 tag-team fighter featuring a vast roster of characters from the Marvel universe, including Captain America, Iron Man, and Spider-Man, as well as Doctor Doom, Storm, and Ghost Rider.
Initially aiming for a western comic-book style, the team shifted direction to embrace Arc System Works’ signature anime-inspired look.

And while the controls are simple enough for anyone to grasp quickly, the game doesn’t compromise on complexity, so competitive players shouldn’t worry.
“Generally, a team VS fighting game requires the player to learn multiple characters, but for MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, you only need to master one character in order to play the game,” wrote Game Director and Lead Battle Designer, Kazuto Sekine, in a post on PlayStation Blog.
“We have designed the mechanics in such a way that you can perform a variety of actions with either traditional fighting game inputs or simple inputs. With the press of a few buttons, multiple characters can appear on screen to provide backup or attack together, creating a new and exciting team battle experience.”
Set to launch in 2026 exclusively on PlayStation 5, the game is the result of a collaboration between PlayStation Studios, Arc System Works, and Marvel Games. It will also be available on PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store.
