The Xbox Games Showcase 2025 just kicked off with a wave of major announcements that captured the attention of gamers around the world. One of the most exciting reveals? Microsoft’s official entry into the handheld gaming market with the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X.

During the event, Microsoft stunned viewers by unveiling two powerful handheld consoles developed in collaboration with ASUS. These devices are designed to deliver a premium Xbox experience on the go, blending the full power of the Xbox ecosystem with the freedom of portable play.

What Will the Xbox Handheld Consoles Offer?

The ROG Xbox Ally series aims to compete directly with devices like the Steam Deck and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. More than that, it signals Xbox’s commitment to a more open, flexible, and personalized future for gamers.

  • ROG Xbox Ally is powered by the AMD Ryzen Z2 A processor, offering a balance of performance and energy efficiency. It features 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB SSD storage, ideal for extended gaming sessions without sacrificing quality.
  • ROG Xbox Ally X steps it up with the AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor, enabling higher frame rates and sharper visuals. It doubles the storage capacity with 1 TB SSD and boosts memory to 24 GB of RAM for even more native game access.

Both handhelds are scheduled to launch during the 2025 holiday season, although a specific release date hasn’t been revealed yet. Unfortunately, official pricing remains under wraps, but pre-orders are expected to open in the coming months.
