Nintendo recently sued the creators of Yuzu, the Switch emulator, and forced them to pay compensation and remove everything related to the project. Despite this, other variants of the emulator, such as Suyu, soon followed.
Nintendo has not had to lift a finger to get rid of Suyu, as GitLab decided to remove it from its hosting and version control platform. Specifically, it disabled the accounts of its developers and thus prevented access to the Switch emulator.
Suyu, another Nintendo Switch emulator, is halted
According to details, Suyu was hosted in a GitLab repository. However, the company shut down the accounts of the emulators developers and, in doing so, put a major halt to the hosting and distribution of the software.
GitLab explained that it received a takedown request backed by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. As such, it decided to follow its standard step-by-step process for this type of situation. For this reason, it is speculated that Suyu could have a fate very similar to that of Yuzu.
It is worth remembering that several emulators decided to close after the lawsuit filed by Nintendo, as no one wants to have a legal conflict with the Japanese company. It is well known that the company defends everything related to its business. Given this situation, it is not known if the creators of Suyu will try to host and distribute their project in other ways. If they do, they run the risk of Nintendo putting a magnifying glass on them.
In the case of Yuzu, Nintendo obtained a $2.4 MDD damages payment. In addition, it managed to stop the distribution of the source code, terminate development and shut down all official channels related to the emulator.
