Just a few days left until fans get their hands on the Switch 2, launching worldwide on June 5. As the big day approaches, more details are emerging about what the console will offer—and now, Nintendo has shared an important piece of advice you’ll definitely want to follow.
What should gamers know before unpacking their Switch 2?
The new device from the Japanese giant boasts significantly more power than the original Switch and is packed with features designed to enhance gameplay and user experience. But here’s one thing you’ll want to keep in mind before diving in.
If you’re unboxing a Switch 2 this week, don’t peel off the protective film covering the screen. The European version of the console’s manual was recently updated and now includes a warning about the display—something first spotted by Universo Nintendo.
According to the manual, the film is not just for shipping, it’s designed to prevent shattered fragments from scattering in case of screen damage.

This is what the document reads:
“The screen is covered with a film layer designed to prevent fragments scattering in the event of damage. Do not peel it off.”
How much storage space is actually usable?
Nintendo previously confirmed that the Switch 2 includes 256 GB of storage, but only 249 GB will be available to users. The rest—around 6 GB—is used for the operating system.
While that’s a common practice in modern consoles, including the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, it’s still something to keep in mind when planning a digital library.
