The Nintendo Switch 2 is shaping up to be a major success despite ongoing controversies over pricing, the growing dominance of digital games, and the volatile global trade environment. Of course, much of its popularity will hinge on its launch lineup. While many titles have already been confirmed, it seems one of the greatest AAA games of all time may be joining the roster
Not too long ago, Nintendo had to lean heavily on its exclusives due to a lack of support from third-party studios. That changed with the original Switch, which managed to attract a wide range of ports, even from major titles not originally designed for its hardware.
The Switch 2 seems to be receiving strong third-party backing. In the months following its launch, players can look forward to high-profile titles such as Hogwarts Legacy and Cyberpunk 2077. And according to new reports, Rockstar Games may also be contributing one of its most iconic titles.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Rumored for Nintendo’s Newest Console
Red Dead Redemption 2, hailed as one of the best games ever, may soon find a new home on Nintendo’s upcoming console. Lauded for its emotional narrative, vast open world, and unparalleled attention to detail, the title holds an impressive 97 on Metacritic.
The game originally launched in October 2018 for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, with a PC release in 2019. More than five years later, multiple sources now suggest that a Nintendo Switch 2 port is on the way.
According to Gamereactor, internal sources at Rockstar claim the game is being prepped for release on the Nintendo Switch 2. There’s no official release date yet, but late 2025 is being floated as a possibility.

While this news is certainly exciting, it’s important to note that it hasn’t been officially confirmed. However, a separate report from Nintendúo—citing different sources—also claims that Arthur Morgan’s emotional journey is headed to the Switch 2.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has previously emphasized the company’s strong relationship with Nintendo and pointed out that Nintendo platforms are no longer just for younger audiences.
Whether or not Red Dead Redemption 2 will officially launch on the Switch 2 remains to be seen. However, the first entry in the series received a port for the original Switch in 2023, lending credibility to the possibility.
Next-Gen Patch Also On the Horizon
Alongside the potential Switch 2 release, Red Dead Redemption 2 may also be getting a next-gen upgrade for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Sources claim Rockstar is preparing a patch to take full advantage of the latest Sony and Microsoft hardware. This upgrade may launch simultaneously with the Nintendo Switch 2 port—or shortly after.
Still, plans could change. Insiders point to the delay of Grand Theft Auto VI—Rockstar’s highly anticipated next project, now expected in 2026—as a potential disruptor.
