Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 has been making headlines ever since it was announced, one of the industry’s biggest names has finally shared his take: Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft Gaming.
Given how Xbox has grown into a publishing powerhouse after acquiring multiple studios, people were curious to know what Spencer thought about Nintendo’s next move. In a recent interview, he not only shared his opinion on the Switch 2 but also confirmed that they intend to maintain their partnership for the foreseeable future.
Nintendo and Xbox Team Up
Microsoft and Nintendo have had a surprisingly friendly and successful relationship in recent years, with several titles from Xbox Game Studios finding a second life on the original Switch.
Speaking to Variety, Spencer expressed enthusiasm for the Switch 2 and what it could mean for the future of gaming. He affirmed that Nintendo is a key part of Microsoft’s broader strategy, and said that the upcoming console presents a valuable opportunity to bring Xbox franchises to new players.
“We’ve been supporting Switch, and I want to support Switch 2. Nintendo has been a great partner. We think it is a unique way for us to reach players who aren’t PC players, who aren’t players on Xbox. It lets us continue to grow our community of people that care about the franchises that we have, and that’s really important for us to make sure we continue to invest in our games.”

“I’m really a big believer in what Nintendo means for this industry and in us continuing to support them. And getting their support for our franchises, I think, is an important part of our future.”
Xbox Eyes the Handheld Market
Not long ago, Xbox hinted that it’s working on its own portable gaming device. While details are still scarce, speculation suggests it’s a direct response to the success of the Switch.
And Microsoft won’t be alone—rumors say Sony is also preparing to release a handheld PlayStation, setting the stage for fierce competition in the portable consoles market in the years ahead.
