Following its acquisition by EA, the Codemasters team is working on its most ambitious AAA yet, intending to expand the video game publisher's racing offerings.

The software house's entry into the Electronic Arts family, whose EA Sports division counts on a wide range of four-wheel experiences, is among the causes that have now led to the announcement of the discontinuation of the company's support for the Project CARS series.

What will happen with the developing team?

Established in 2015 under the aegis of Slightly Mad Studios, the IP will therefore cease operations, with no new titles coming soon. Following the outpouring of several rumors on the matter, the news was confirmed directly by an Electronic Arts spokesperson.

"After evaluating the next title in the Project CARS series and its long-term growth potential, we have decided to discontinue any further development and investment related to the franchise," EA explained. Employees employed in the development of new Project CARS will be relocated to other EA Sports racing departments or, "where possible," to other publisher-owned teams.

EA's racing portfolio remains at the center of the company's interests. Still, it has decided to direct its resources elsewhere, focusing on licensed or open-world structured four-wheeled titles that "in addition to gaming, can offer fans the opportunity to be spectators, to create and to connect with their friends."
