PS Plus Users Fed Up with Service Over These Issues, Threaten to Cancel Subscriptions

PS4 and PS5 fans are disappointed with the current state of Sony's program, and many will abandon it

Subscription services have become a cornerstone of the gaming industry, offering players an affordable way to enjoy new releases and classic titles. However, many agree that Sony’s PS Plus service is falling short of expectations.

Originally launched as an optional program allowing players to access free games for PS3 and PSP, PS Plus later became a requirement to play online on PlayStation 4.

One of the biggest changes came in 2022, when Sony divided PS Plus into three tiers: PS Plus Essential, PS Plus Extra, and PS Plus Premium—each with its own set of perks. Despite offering more choices than ever, fans are increasingly critical of the current state of the paid service.

PS Plus Price Hike in Latin America and Removal of Over 20 Games

While Xbox Game Pass enjoyed one of its best months recently with titles like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered launching, PS Plus users are feeling left behind.

The lack of day-one releases adds to growing controversies. Recently, Sony raised PS Plus prices in Mexico, Latin America, Australia, and parts of Asia. Canada also experienced a price increase not long ago.

To make matters worse, Sony confirmed that PS Plus Extra and Premium tiers will lose 22 games in May, including exclusives like Infamous: Second Son and the blockbuster Grand Theft Auto V. This disappointing news comes right alongside the price hikes.

New additions in May, such as Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help Wanted – Full Time Edition and Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, along with eight other titles, have done little to ease community frustration.

PlayStation Users Threaten to Cancel PS Plus Subscriptions

It’s clear that Sony’s initiative is struggling. A popular Reddit post highlighted that May is often a tough month for PS Plus. Last year, 33 games left the service in May, 35 games departed in May 2024, and now 22 games are gone this May.

The post gained traction, with many users expressing their frustration. Some even threaten to cancel their subscriptions or not renew them.

“I just canceled because my subscription expires in a few days. It’s a relief. Better than watching them remove so many good games, even first-party titles, for no reason. Maybe if I feel like playing again, I’ll buy PS Plus Essential for a month,” said a disappointed user.

“With stuff like this and price hikes (at least in Canada), I’m glad I downgraded to PS Plus Essential last month,” added another fan. “I don’t know if Sony struggles to attract big publishers or if they’re losing interest in supporting the service, but it feels pretty weak right now,” said a third.
