Punishments, including bans, seem not to be a solution to combat toxic users causing trouble during online gaming sessions. Instead of relying on punitive measures, some companies are opting for creative technological solutions. Recently, a Sony patent revealed the companys idea for dealing with toxic behavior in PlayStation voice chat.

Sonys Patent to Act Against Toxic and Disruptive Users in Voice Chats

A recently registered Sony patent (via Exputer) unveiled the companys proposal to tackle toxic users who dont hold back in voice chats on PlayStation. The patent is titled DIGITAL AUDIO EMOTIONAL RESPONSE FILTER and relies on the use of artificial intelligence to detect the words, sentences, and tone used by the user. Various levels of action are proposed to moderate the chat experience, considering that what is said is related to emotions such as anger, fear, sadness, excessive excitement, and even the use of seductive tones.

Sonys patent proposes a different form of voice chat moderation

Sonys System Proposes the Use of AI to Change a Users Tone of Voice

In this regard, Sonys patent would use this system in different ways depending on the intensity of the users voice and what they are saying in the chat, as well as their persistence. Among the actions is the automatic decrease in volume, something that would be detected by other players, so shouts of happiness or annoyance could be numbered.

However, what stands out most about this Sony patent for the PlayStation online experience is the proposal to use AI to alter a players original voice so that others hear it with a pleasant tone.

This proposal for moderating voice chat considers different scenarios, such as immediate action regardless of whether someone thinks voice modulation is needed or specific action with the player choosing what they want or dont want to hear and how they want to do it.
