Despite a few bumps along the way, video game adaptations for film and television remain a profitable venture. Street Fighter is the next major franchise aiming to step into the big screen with a new live-action movie, and recent developments hint at who might be joining the cast.
Not long after Legendary Entertainment picked up the rights to Capcom’s Street Fighter almost two years ago, the studio officially unveiled its plans for an adaptation.
Directing duties were originally assigned to Danny and Michael Philippou, but they reportedly had to bow out due to scheduling issues. The job has now gone to Kitao Sakurai, an Emmy-nominated talent best known for The Eric Andre Show. The identity of the screenwriter, however, is still under wraps.
While the project is far from hitting theaters, new updates suggest production is gaining momentum and aiming for a knockout ensemble.
Jason Momoa, Andrew Koji, and Roman Reigns in Talks for Street Fighter
According to a Deadline report, a strong lineup may be coming together for this highly anticipated adaptation. Sources say Jason Momoa, Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo, and WWE superstar Roman Reigns are currently in negotiations to star in the film.
Nothing is confirmed yet, and Legendary has declined to comment, but early reactions from fans have been mostly positive.
Andrew Koji, recognized for his work in Warrior, Bullet Train, and Snake Eyes, is viewed as a strong contender to portray Ryu. Fans have responded positively to the idea, citing his experience with martial arts.
Noah Centineo, recently seen in Black Adam and A24’s Warfare, has emerged as a potential candidate to play Ken.

Then there’s Jason Momoa, one of the biggest names on the list. Momoa recently topped box office charts with Minecraft: The Movie, a live-action of Mojang and Microsoft’s best-selling title. The 45-year old would take on another video game role despite not being known as a gamer himself.
And though WWE star Roman Reigns doesn’t have much experience in film, his wrestling background could lend itself well to the kind of physical performance this film may demand.
Release Date Removed from Sony Schedule
Originally scheduled for a theatrical release on March 20, 2026, the Street Fighter film has been removed from Sony Pictures’ official release calendar.
Still, the project seems to be moving forward. At the recent Licensing Expo in Las Vegas, attendees got a first look at the movie’s new logo, so clearly, things are in motion behind the scenes.
