Embracer Groups restructuring plan continues to result in closures and layoffs for what, a few years ago, was considered the new giant of the video game industry in Europe. Unfortunately, the bad news doesnt stop, and another studio has been impacted by the tough times.
Another day, another troubled Embracer Group studio
According to reports from Insider-Gaming and Eurogamer, New World Interactive, developers of the military-themed FPS and multiplayer franchise Insurgency, has been affected by Embracer Groups financial decisions. Initially, sources indicated that the studio had definitively closed in a supposed announcement made to employees yesterday morning.
However, hours later, Saber Interactive, the publisher and overseer of the Insurgency: Sandstorm studio, denied that New World Interactive was closing but admitted that the studio had experienced layoffs. They are currently working with the affected employees to place them in new projects or, in cases where thats not possible, to offer an attractive severance package to conclude the employment relationship.
What will happen to the military FPS franchise Insurgency?

Regarding this, Saber Interactive stated in a press release: "We can confirm that there have been restructuring changes involving our subsidiary New World Interactive. Unfortunately, this reorganization has resulted in layoffs at the studio. We are working to fill existing vacancies within Saber with those affected by these changes whenever possible and will provide severance packages to affected employees."
Finally, Saber assured that the Insurgency franchise is not at risk and that work will continue on Insurgency: Sandstorm and on undisclosed projects within the IP.
In related news about the Embracer Group disaster, reports indicate that the studio working on the return of TimeSplitters is on borrowed time. Similarly, the reasons behind the disaster of the Saints Row reboot were revealed—a failure so severe that the studio, Volition, closed its doors forever.
