The fan-made TimeSplitters remake is finally here — and this is how you can play it for free

The project took 13 years and the community is thrilled about the return of the classic FPS

Many years have passed since TimeSplitters amazed players. The FPS was once considered the spiritual successor to GoldenEye 007 and Perfect Dark. That’s no surprise, as developers from those games left Rare in 1999 to found Free Radical Design. After three entries, the IP went silent and plans for a fourth title fell apart. However, today marks a long-awaited return thanks to the fans.

What Is TimeSplitters Rewind?

After 13 years in development, TimeSplitters Rewind has finally debuted in early access with its own launcher. It’s a fan-made project not connected in any way to the original studio or any publisher.

According to its creators, this is a collection featuring dozens of maps from the three main games, portions of their story campaigns, as well as dozens of challenges and leagues. Veterans of this FPS remember it for its excellent controls and multiplayer, which can now be enjoyed online.

Developers clarify that this is not a traditional remake. This means it isn’t a full trilogy, nor is there a dedicated section for each game. Instead, they gathered the most important and iconic elements from all three titles and enhanced them audiovisually and mechanically for modern hardware.
