The live-action adaptation of The Last of Us premiered in early 2023 and immediately became one of the most popular series in recent years. Its expected that the upcoming seasons will follow the events of the second video game, but will the TV show end alongside Ellie and Joels story?
Will The Last of Us HBO Series Have a Spin-Off? Craig Mazins Opinion
During an interview with TheWrap, showrunner and writer Craig Mazin talked about the possibility of a spin-off based on the TV series. While hes open to the idea of spin-off series that delve deeper into the world and characters of the franchise, he admitted that they havent discussed it in depth yet.
"We havent specifically talked about that because were very focused on telling the main narrative. Im not against the idea of these shows that can be inspired by these characters or this world," the creative stated in the interview.
Although hes unsure if he would be involved in a hypothetical The Last of Us spin-off, Craig Mazin is in favor of such shows and mentioned that Neil Druckmann, Naughty Dogs director, is also interested. "If theres something that makes sense [to tell], then I dont see why not," he affirmed.
However, the showrunner has one simple condition that he would like to be fulfilled if a spin-off gets the green light. Specifically, he hopes that a derived TV series would be made with the same "care, respect, and love" that the HBO team demonstrated with the main series.

In an interview in early 2023, Neil Druckmann, the creative director at Naughty Dog and a producer on the HBO series, stated that they had no plans to go beyond the video games and tell original stories.
Of course, the world of The Last of Us is extensive, and there are many possibilities that could be explored. A few months ago, Melanie Lynskey, who portrayed Kathleen in Season 1, expressed her interest in a spin-off centered around her character. On the other hand, Nick Offerman and Murray Barlett mentioned that they would like to delve into the relationship between Bill and Frank.
But tell us, would you like the HBO series to have a spin-off? Let us know in the comments.
