Mass Effect: Andromeda was far from the success that BioWare and Electronic Arts had hoped for. Apparently, this led the studio to decide that it was best to take a step back and approach the future of the series differently. Thats why the next Mass Effect game wont be open-world, or at least thats what a new report suggests.
According to information from Jez Corden, a journalist who writes for Windows Central, BioWare plans to return to the roots of the series for the next Mass Effect installment. This would mean leaving behind the open-world format that we saw in Mass Effect Andromeda.
Corden discussed this on an episode of the Xbox Two Podcast, during which they were talking about Starfield and how studios tend to recycle systems and ideas in their games to create their unique flavor. As part of the conversation, the journalist noted that, according to his sources, BioWare intends to go back to the old style of Mass Effect.
"Ive heard that Mass Effect is leaving the open-world behind and returning to the classic format. I dont know if its 100% true, but its an industry rumor," he said.
This change wouldnt be surprising at all. After all, Andromeda fell far short of the heights of the original Mass Effect trilogy. Additionally, creating a more condensed RPG would likely help the studio avoid the issues that made the post-launch of Mass Effect Andromeda a nightmare.
What do you think about this? Do you believe Mass Effect should return to its classic style, or should it explore new horizons? Share your thoughts in the comments.
