The Witcher 4 got its first official trailer during The Game Awards 2024, and as expected, it stirred plenty of excitement among fans. As the follow-up to one of the most acclaimed RPGs of the last decade, it’s no surprise that gamers are eager to get their hands on it. Nonetheless, the studio has cautioned players to remain alert to scams.

Although CD Projekt RED hasn’t shared an official release date, early predictions suggest we might not see the game until 2027 or later. In the meantime, there’s plenty to look forward to—more reveals, gameplay trailers, and story hints are expected to trickle out over the coming months.

But will fans get a chance to try it early through an open beta? CD Projekt RED recently addressed those rumors and issued a warning to the community.

Studio Alerts Fans of Fake Witcher 4 Beta

Some gamers have reported receiving supposed invites to participate in a beta test for The Witcher 4. Given that it’s a single-player RPG with no known multiplayer features, the idea of a public test version raised eyebrows.

These invitations are, of course, blatant scams. Yet some hopeful players, eager to believe they’ve scored early access, might risk handing over sensitive information. That’s why CD Projekt RED issued a warning and offered a few recommendations.

“Recently, we’ve been getting reports from some community members that they’ve been invited to a beta test of The Witcher 4. This is a scam,” the company said, noting that “professional monster slayers” should see right through this trick.

The Polish studio confirmed it is already working to take down the fraudulent messages, but still urged fans to report any suspicious invites received via email or social media. It also reiterated that if they ever do plan a public test for The Witcher 4, all information will be shared exclusively through their official channels.

Voice Actor Retracts Statement About Geralt’s Return

This isn’t the first time The Witcher 4 has sparked confusion. Just before The Game Awards, voice actor Doug Cockle admitted he got “slapped” for commenting on a rumor suggesting Geralt of Rivia would return.

“I went off a rumor; I thought I’d seen somebody from CD Projekt say that Geralt will be in The Witcher 4, but not as the main character. I don’t actually know if that’s true now, because they came back and went, ‘We haven’t put anything out there, don’t say anything!'”
