Games as a service, always dependent on internet and support, have an expiration date, but the detail is that we dont know when it will happen. This time, the fate is marked for an attractive multiplayer FPS that, despite not having overwhelming success, formed a base of loyal players. However, not all news is bad.

Hunt: Showdown bids farewell to PS4 and Xbox One

Crytek, a company known for the CryEngine graphics engine and the Crysis franchise, announced that their multiplayer game Hunt: Showdown will lose support for its PlayStation 4 and Xbox versions. This is because the upcoming update, CryEngine 5.11, will no longer be compatible with the last-generation consoles from Sony and Microsoft, making it impossible to play this FPS on them. According to the German company, this engine update will arrive on August 15th.

Hunt: Showdown is leaving PS4 and Xbox One, but will arrive on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S

Hunt: Showdown will come to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and the transition will be free for players

Despite this, there is good news: the CryEngine 5.11 update is designed entirely for Hunt: Showdown to run natively on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. With that said, Crytek informed that players who own a copy of the game will be able to upgrade to the current-generation console version at no cost, so the system will recognize that the title is added to their library and will allow them to access and download the new version for free.

Regarding this, David Fifield, franchise manager at Crytek, acknowledged that there are still many Hunt: Showdown players on PS4 and Xbox One, but pointed out that the move to current-generation consoles is necessary for technological reasons, so the company offers a free transition and respects their user accounts, as well as progress made: "for those affected, we want to be clear once again. Your Hunt: Showdown player accounts and all related DLC will be transferred to the new version at no additional cost when you are ready to make the hardware transition."

Recently, Sony revealed that half of PlayStation players are still playing on PS4 and havent made the jump to PS5 for various reasons. Hence, there are online games that are still significantly related to last-generation consoles, although years go by and ensuring support becomes more difficult.
