Steam is the largest PC gaming platform in the world, welcoming thousands of titles from major AAA publishers and small indie studios every day. Unfortunately, not every game gets the recognition it deserves. Right now, there’s an intriguing horror game up for grabs—but you’ll have to move fast to snag it for free.
Unlike the Epic Games Store, Valve’s platform doesn’t regularly give away games, but free content is still available thanks to generous studios. Some choose a free-to-play model, while others simply offer their creations to the community at no charge.
Mouthole falls into the latter category. Once a paid game, it has just gone free, though not for long. The studio behind it is shutting down, and the title will soon vanish from Steam.
Mouthole is free on Steam
Created by indie developer Anything Nose Productions, Mouthole was previously sold for $2.39. Originally released on April 2024, the game didn’t make a huge splash, but gained a bit of a cult following. Now, over a year later, the team behind it is saying goodbye and giving players a chance to keep it in their libraries.
In an official announcement, the developers confirmed that both the game and its soundtrack will be free until they’re taken down. While no exact removal date was given, the team urged players to act quickly.
Once claimed, the game will remain in your Steam library permanently. And even if you miss this window, Mouthole won’t disappear completely, as it will still be available for free on Itch and Bandcamp, according to the developers.
Alongside the removal, the studio also announced the cancellation of Diacritic, their next project, and confirmed they are closing shop. In their message, they thanked the community for its support.

What is Mouthole?
For those unfamiliar with this title, Mouthole is a horror RPG with minimalist design and retro aesthetics. It invites players into a surreal world full of puzzles, hidden paths, and strange challenges.
The game features 11 endings and can be completed in as little as two hours—though some players report spending much longer with it.
Right now, it has an impressive 97% positive review score on Steam, which makes it a hidden gem worth checking out.
