Looking back, well realize that 2023 was a great year for video games, thanks to outstanding releases that thrilled players. However, there were also some titles that flew under the radar. One of those proposals will finally make its way to PlayStation 5.
Earlier this year, Phil Spencer confirmed that only 4 Xbox exclusives are making their way to competing platforms. These proposals come from the companys first-party studios, leaving the door open for titles developed by third-party companies to reach other ecosystems.
Thats the case with The Last Case of Benedict Fox, a metroidvania that debuted in April 2023 exclusively for PC and Xbox consoles. In fact, it was announced at the Xbox & Bethesda Showcase in 2022 and was a day one release on Xbox Game Pass. Now, its developers have reaffirmed that a port for PlayStation 5 is in the works.

The Last Case of Benedict Fox: Definitive Edition is coming to PS5
In September 2023, the developer Plot Twist Studio and publisher Rogue Games confirmed that they are working on a port for PS5 of the indie title. Thats not all; this new version will include substantial improvements to address the issues that affected the original experience.
Specifically, The Last Case of Benedict Fox: Definitive Edition will enhance the visual aspects and artificial intelligence of enemies, while also introducing new mechanics that will make exploration and combat much more dynamic and fast-paced. These changes respond to community feedback.

In a recent post, the creators of the horror-themed metroidvania highlighted these improvements and reminded that the version for PlayStation 5 is in development. They refrained from sharing the release date but hinted that it will arrive "soon."

What is The Last Case of Benedict Fox?
For those unfamiliar, The Last Case of Benedict Fox is a metroidvania inspired by the horror works of Howard Phillips Lovecraft. Here, players step into the shoes of a detective who battles demons while exploring the memories of deceased victims to unravel a mystery.
Naturally, this title combines elements of exploration, combat, and puzzle-solving. Although it has mostly positive reviews on Steam, it holds an average score of 58 on Metacritic. With a bit of luck, the Definitive Edition will address most issues and take the experience to another level.
