Possibly driven by the impressive success of the Nintendo Switch, Valve decided to venture into the portable market with the Steam Deck, a platform that allows players to enjoy the Steam library. Since its release, it has become a great success, but the company already has its eyes on whats next.
This week, Valve surprised with the announcement of the Steam Deck OLED, a new version of the portable device that will have a better screen and other very interesting innovations. For example, it will boast a longer-lasting battery, faster downloads, and other advantages.
This device is already available for purchase, and units will start shipping from November 16th. It is important to note that the new model has the same internal specifications, meaning it will not offer better gaming performance.
Players looking for superior performance in their gaming sessions should wait for the "sequel" to the portable console. Unfortunately, it is still far away.
When will the Steam Deck 2 be available?
In an interview with the portal, Bloomberg, Lawrence Yang, a product designer at Valve, stated that, after the launch of the OLED model, his team will work on a potential Steam Deck 2, but he hinted that it will be available, at least, in 2 or 3 years.
These statements are in line with the words of designer Jay Shaw, who told IGN that the team is constantly thinking about the sequel to Valves successful portable console but admitted that he still doesnt know when it will hit the market.
“We dont have any kind of date set. I think were going to wait for the technology to come together in a way that seems interesting to us and the team really wants to make that leap. Were very, very, very proud of this version of Steam Deck, and thats it. This is the one were most happy with, and we believe customers will be too. So, we think about Steam Deck 2 all the time, but I think were very satisfied here because this is really the high end of what we wanted to do," said Jay Shaw.
