Fortnite has evolved from a Battle Royale and multiplayer game to become a gaming platform where all kinds of proposals created by the community or development teams converge. This includes collaborations with various franchises and intellectual properties, but there are also notable absences. In the gaming world, Nintendo is one of them, but if its characters have not arrived in the Epic Games universe, it has not been due to lack of interest.
Epic Games has collaborated with PlayStation and Xbox for Fortnite, but not with Nintendo
During an interview with Axioss Stephen Totilo, Saxs Persson, the head of the Fortnite ecosystem, spoke about the possibility of the platform featuring Nintendo characters at some point. On previous occasions, the Battle Royale has had collaborations with two gaming giants, PlayStation and Xbox, resulting in skins and character content such as Kratos and Master Chief. They have also formed alliances with major companies and brands from other sectors, such as film, TV, and music, to bring novelties to millions of users.

Why arent there Nintendo characters in Fortnite?
However, the absence of Nintendo characters is not due to a lack of interest, as there is certainly interest. Still, it seems that the Japanese company has requirements that are nearly impossible to meet, even for a financially powerful company like Epic Games. In this regard, Saxs Persson acknowledged that Epic has tried to bring characters from franchises like Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, and Donkey Kong to Fortnite, but they have failed in their attempts. "I dont know what the word is, for example, to make diamonds," said the executive regarding how challenging it is to deal with Nintendo to extract their IPs.
Despite this, Saxs Persson assured that Epic Games is not giving up and hopes that a collaboration with Nintendo can become a reality at some point, although it seems difficult from a perspective as simple as how the company would perceive its characters shooting or engaging in gunfights, no matter how fantastical it may be in Fortnite. "Nintendo has its strategy, and we have our strategy, and we hope at some point to use their characters because our players would love it."
