Microsoft presented its financial report for the second quarter of the current fiscal year, a period that ended on December 31, 2023. The standout immediately is Microsofts gaming business, which is currently the third most successful business, only surpassed by sectors such as general services, office products, and the cloud. The noteworthy detail is that, thanks to generating over $7 billion USD during the quarter, Microsofts gaming business surpassed that of Windows, which closed the period with just over $5 billion USD.
Impact of Activisions Purchase Was Positive for Xbox
Regarding the specific indicators for Microsoft Gaming, it was revealed that their revenues related to video games increased by 49% compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year. Similarly, the Xbox content and services sector, where Game Pass is located, recorded a growth of 61%, and even the good momentum extended to console sales, which saw a 3% increase in the video game hardware category.
Microsoft pointed out that these numbers are heavily influenced by the purchase of Activision Blizzard King, as this is the first fiscal quarter in which the publisher is accounted for as part of the company and its gaming business. However, as reported by The Verge, the acquisition operation had an initial impact of $2 billion USD, but with related costs to finalize the merger, it resulted in an operational loss of $400 million USD.
