In its quest to attract players and strengthen Xbox Game Pass, Microsoft has negotiated to get exclusives from third-party companies. There have been cases of success, but not all of them can do well, and the clearest example is CrossfireX, a game that less than a year after its launch confirmed the closure of its servers.

Through a press release, SmileGate announced that CrossfireX servers will close on May 18, 2023. Once this happens, CrossfireX will no longer be available. This means that you will not be able to play its multiplayer mode or campaign missions.

SmileGate said that closing the CrossFireX servers was a difficult decision and not something they would like to do. Especially since they had an "active, passionate and enthusiastic" community that they want to thank for being part of the journey.

All sales of the game will stop on the Xbox Store. Also, the game will no longer be available on Xbox Game Pass. On the other hand, SmileGate reported that CrossFireX purchases made in the last 14 days may be eligible for a refund. Those interested can apply here.

CrossfireX launched on Xbox X Series, Xbox S Series, and Xbox One consoles on February 10, 2022.
