Xbox Game Pass is set to end August with an impressive roster of new arrivals, promising subscribers plenty of gaming hours ahead. Unfortunately, Microsoft’s subscription service will also say goodbye to several notable titles before the month is out.

In total, both Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass will lose 6 games that generated significant buzz upon their respective debuts. Besides several indie games, the lineup includes two high-budget AAA productions that were critically acclaimed and received high Metacritic scores.

Several AAA Games Will Be Leaving XBOX Game Pass in August

One of the recurring challenges with subscription-based gaming is that content isn’t forever. Microsoft routinely rotates games in the middle and at the end of each month, making it essential for subscribers to stay informed about both incoming and outgoing games.

At the end of August, the console and XBOX Cloud Gaming will say goodbye to what many consider one of the finest RPGs ever made. Widely praised by critics and players alike, this title frequently appears in “best of” lists spanning the last two decades.

That game is CD Projekt RED’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which holds a 93 Metacritic score. Geralt de Rivia’s epic journey will only be available for a few more weeks, with its departure scheduled for August 31.

Unfortunately, it will not be the only AAA exit. Come September, subscribers will also lose access to a major sports franchise entry: Visual Concepts and 2K’s NBA 2K26. While this game also earned a 93 from critics on Metacritic, its user rating sits at a much lower 4.5.

However, NBA 2K26 will remain playable until September 6 before leaving both Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass.
