Exclusivity has always been a controversial topic in gaming, but recent years have intensified the debate as companies rethink their approach. While PlayStation has slowly begun porting some of its exclusives to PC, Xbox has taken a bolder path—releasing many of its first-party hits across multiple platforms.
Xbox and Microsoft Dominate PlayStation’s Most-Downloaded PS5 Games in April
Via its official blog, Sony shared the most downloaded games on the PlayStation Network for April 2025. The results turned heads—because the top-performing titles in North America all belong to Microsoft.
In the U.S. and Canada, the most downloaded PS5 game last month was The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, a surprise re-release of the classic RPG. It was followed by Minecraft, Mojang Studios’ ever-popular sandbox title. Rounding out the top three is Forza Horizon 5, the critically acclaimed racing game.
Interestingly, these same titles also took the top spots in Europe, albeit in a slightly different order: Forza Horizon 5 came in first, followed by Oblivion Remastered and Minecraft.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, the new action-adventure game from Bethesda and MachineGames, ranked 11th in the U.S. and Canada and 8th in Europe. Meanwhile, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 from Activision also made the list of April’s most-downloaded PS5 titles.
In Mexico, Forza Horizon 5 and Minecraft ranked among the top PS5 games. Mojang’s blockbuster also appeared on the PS4 chart. However, TES IV: Oblivion Remastered didn’t make the local top rankings.

Gears of War: Reloaded Is Coming to PS5 — and More Xbox Titles Might Follow
Despite backlash from some Xbox loyalists, it’s clear that Microsoft’s multiplatform strategy is gaining traction. The success of these titles on PlayStation shows a strong appetite for Xbox-owned IPs across the aisle.
On May 5, 2025, Microsoft confirmed that Gears of War: Reloaded, a modern remaster of the Xbox 360 classic, will launch on PS5 alongside versions for Xbox Series X|S and PC. This marks the first time a mainline Gears of War game appears on a Sony console—unsurprisingly stirring debate.
While still unconfirmed, earlier rumors suggested that Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Microsoft Flight Simulator could be heading to PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2. Another recent hint points toward Starfield, Bethesda’s polarizing sci-fi RPG, possibly arriving on PS5 as well.
Microsoft took plenty of heat from hardcore fans for opening its ecosystem—but looking at the sales charts, it seems the gamble is paying off. Clearly, PlayStation gamers are interested in what Xbox has to offer.
