December is here, Christmas and New Years Eve are just around the corner, and you can already smell the festive spirit. There are always three must-haves at this time of year: food, ugly sweaters, and Christmas movies.

At LevelUp, we love video games, maybe a little more than we should, but that doesnt mean wed turn our backs on a good movie of people punching each other in the face while a red barrel explodes in the background. However, Christmas movies tend to be different.

Today we bring you a list of five movie recommendations to watch this vacation season, either before, during, or after getting indigestion from eating so much of Grandmas food.

Die Hard (1988)

On Christmas Eve, New York City cop John McClane (Bruce Willis) pays a visit to his estranged wife (Bonnie Bedelia). He joins her for a holiday party at the Japanese-owned company where she works. However, the festivities are cut short when a bunch of terrorists takes over the luxurious high-rise and everyone in it. McClane quickly knows that he is the only one who can save the hostages.

Jingle All the Way (1996)

Howard Langston (Arnold Schwarzenegger) is a workaholic who wants to make amends with his son Jamie (Jake Lloyd) and wife Liz (Rita Wilson). He promises to bring Jamie the trendiest toy of the season, Turbo-Man, although its Christmas Eve and the product is almost sold out. While searching for the elusive gift, Langston meets mailman Myron (Sinbad), another father on the same quest. With time ticking down, Langstons moral compass is tested as he realizes Christmass true meaning.

ELF (2003)

Buddy (Will Ferrell) was inadvertently transported to the North Pole as a toddler and raised by Santas elves to maturity. Unable to shake the sensation that he doesnt belong, the adult Buddy travels to New York, dressed as an elf, in quest of his biological father. This is, of course, Walter Hobbs (James Caan), a cynical businessman. Following the findings of a DNA test, Walter unwillingly attempts to begin a relationship with the childish Buddy, with increasingly disastrous outcomes.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)

The solitary green Grinch (Jim Carrey) attempts to ruin Christmas for the cheerful people of Whoville in this live-action rendition of Dr. Seuss classic childrens tale. The Grinch, accompanied by his miserable dog, Max, reluctantly descends from his hilltop house and sneaks into town to steal anything holiday-related from the Whos. However, the nasty grumps ambitions are thwarted when he meets the adorable Cindy Lou Who (Taylor Momsen).

The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

The film depicts the antics of Jack Skellington, Halloweentowns beloved pumpkin king, who has grown tired of scaring people in the "real world." When Jack comes onto Christmastown, with all brilliant colors, and good spirits, he finds a new lease on life and plots to take over Christmas by kidnapping Santa Claus and taking over the job. However, Jack soon realizes that even the best-laid plots of mice and skeleton men may go horribly wrong.
