Horror movies that bring unique “WTF moments” to the genre (Part II)

Por Sara Araujo el 31 de October de 2022

Halloween celebrations are at their fullest today, and there’s no better way to get the mood on than with horror movies (and Treehouse Horror episodes, maybe.) If you are a horror movie fan, you surely will enjoy the second part of this list:

VHS (2012)
A compilation of mini-stories that will blow your mind in every way. The handy cam kind of movie has been refurbished with this movie, and the fact that it covers different types of horror makes VHS an exciting film. They are scary, though, so beware. And if you have any condition that may be prone to feeling dizzy with moving visuals, avoid this one.

HOSTEL (2005)
Rich people being rich people, using not-so-rich people as they please. Oh yes, you read right. Hostel is a raw and intense film about gambling and torture. It gets heavy and gory, but if you don’t take it too seriously, Hostel will be very entertaining. The end is extra funny, I promise.

HEREDITARY (2018)
A story about a happy family that goes sideways. How so? You’ll have to find out. In the meantime, I’ll let you know that the movie is part of a new wave of horror that introduces different psychological elements and brings back classic pieces with a different focus. Hereditary is scary, creepy, and very much “WTF.”

MIDSOMMAR (2019)
The masterminds that brought to you Hereditary came back for more with Midsommar. When traveling to a cute society hidden in the middle of Sweden, one thinks, “what could go wrong?” And man, so many things go wrong in the weirdest way possible. Also, the movie has a unique story, exciting visuals, and photography!

US (2019)
This one is a personal recommendation from one of my favorite current directors. Jordan Peele somehow managed to make a statement (as he always does) and give ultra-creepy performances to excellent actors. An extra WTF movie with an even more WTF ending. But, all in all, worth it.

MALIGNANT (2021)
This movie has been of the best stories in recent horror that I’ve seen. It uses this new technique of blending genres, so in Malignant, you’ll get classic slasher horror, psychological horror, and big drama. The movie has it all and is very well put; you can’t miss this one!
