The Super Mario Bros. Movie is a feast of references, so fans are rushing to the cinema to watch it again to catch all its amazing nods to the classic Nintendo world. Thanks to this, we now know that Nintendo replaced Donkey Kong in a part of the movie without anyone noticing.
But doesn't Donkey Kong appear as if nothing happened in the Kong Kingdom? Yes, and that's precisely why Nintendo and Illumination felt they had to change it in another part of The Super Mario Bros. Movie. If you remember, in one of the first scenes, we can see the brothers in a pizzeria called Punch-Out! and they are accompanied by several people.
In one corner of the pizzeria, we can see an arcade machine called Jump Man, which is a clear reference to the classic arcade game Donkey Kong. Since the charismatic gorilla appears as part of the Mushroom Kingdom, Nintendo had to remove him from the arcade and have his place occupied by a Yeti.
Don't believe us? We leave you the evidence below:

As Twitter users have pointed out, perhaps this means that in the universe of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, there would be a game called Super Jump Man and another titled Yeti Country. Will we see nods like this in future installments? We'll have to wait to find out.
Would this imply that in the Mario movie universe, Jump Man would get his own series called Super Jump Man with the Yeti getting his own spinoff series called Yeti Country?
