The console war is still a topic of discussion. Which one is the best? Which has the best exclusives? Questions like these generate heated and endless debates on social media and forums. That said, could the gaming industry benefit from having a single platform? It's hard to say, but an important Japanese creative has a clear perspective.

Naoki Yoshida, producer of Final Fantasy XVI and one of the key figures behind the successful Final Fantasy XIV, appeared on the Taiwanese channel Muyao 4 Super Player to discuss various topics. Thanks to a translation by IGN, some very interesting information came to light.

NAOKI YOSHIDA BELIEVES A UNIQUE GAMING PLATFORM WOULD BE BEST FOR PLAYERS AND DEVS

At one point in the conversation, the Japanese creative shared his opinion on the duality between PlayStation and Xbox. Surprisingly, he believes that it would be beneficial for fans and the people behind the video games if there was a single console.

"Game platforms... I probably shouldn't say this, but I wish there was only one. It would be better for both the developers and the players", Naoki Yoshida stated during the discussion.

Of course, the statements of the producer and director are attention-grabbing given recent events. We must remember that the latest game he was involved in, Final Fantasy XVI, is a timed exclusive for the PlayStation 5 with a supposed PC release in the plans.

Precisely, Naoki Yoshida, also known as Yoshi-P, caused controversy in early 2023 when he refused to discuss the aforementioned PC port and told fans to buy a PlayStation 5 to play FF XVI.

However, Final Fantasy XIV, the successful MMORPG, will be available for Xbox Series X|S in 2024, more than 10 years after the original release. The news was announced during the Las Vegas Fan Festival, where Xbox's Phil Spencer reaffirmed his commitment to working with Square Enix on "future games."
